Letters From the Hood v.01
6/20/2008
The Burton Demo Center at Mt. Hood is open and ready for business! Burton Hood Shopgirls Leia Sherblom and Nicole Driscoll narrowly escaped from the hot pursuit of Vermont summer by fleeing on a jet plane to escape to Mt. Hood, Oregon. There they were met by their cohort and accomplice Tad Hukari, an Oregon local who would soon prove his native knowledge invaluable to their covert operations on the west coast. When they arrived at their hideout, the Burton Demo Center in Government Camp, they would discover that entry was not as easy as they had anticipated. Snow banks outside the demo door towered over their heads, like sentries who had guarded the doors of the dormant demo all winter long. It was time for them to shake life into the demo center once again and prepare for a summer full of sunny summertime shred, gangs of gregarious groms and raucous rockers ready for Rockband rivalry! Over the next week, the Demo Center fortress was barraged by battalions of boxes; tons of 2009 product. Hundreds of boards, boots and bindings descended upon them, filling every corner of the demo center. Armed with box cutters and a determination to shred the snowy slopes of the volcano, the three shredders tore through the boxes like they were tearing up a fresh powder field. Outside the demo center, winter made its last stand with a vengeance, relentlessly pounding the volcano and the streets of Govy. With the snow beckoning them, the Demo Center Hoodlums soon transformed mountains and mazes of boxes into militant rows of sharp 09 bindings, a force of fresh-from-the-box boots and a slue of snowboards, still fresh with factory wax, waiting for rippers to take them for their first turns to tear Mt. Hood’s record snowfall to shreds. The Demo Center opened its doors on June 14th to hordes of eager snowshredders; High Cascade Campers infiltrated the Demo hungry for fresh snowboards and new technology, drooling over the new LOVE and asking the age-old question, “do you have any stickers?” Armed with screwdrivers, product from the future and yes, lots of stickers, the Mt. Hood Demo staff is ready to do battle with the volcano, forming alliances with thousands of snowboarders who will make their way to the Burton Demo Center this summer to be suited with the best arsenal of snow shredding equipment available. Mt. Hood doesn’t stand a chance against this army of snow addicts hungry for big turns and big airs, jibs and spins, bonks and aerials. Summer 2008 has just begun.
Mammoth’s New Superpipe
5/27/2008
Tommy Czeschin - fs air | Westenbarger photo Posted by Kevin Westenbarger on Future Snowboarding Magazine—May. 21, 2008 Mammoth Opens New 22ft Pipe The California summer is really starting to cook. The beach is going off, the lakes are warming up, skate parks are being torn up, Mammoth is opening new half pipes–wait a minute, what??? That’s right, Mammoth just built a brand new 22ft pipe for the last week of the 07/08 season. Layout of latest shred setup at Mammoth. Every year when the lower part of Mammoth Mountain starts to melt out, they move the park up to chair 3 on the mid-mountain. Normally, this park is open for the last 3 or 4 weeks, but this year they managed to keep the Unbound park on chair 6 running strong well into May. That, coupled with an earlier than normal closing date, means that Mammoth invested a big chunk of time and money just to have a half pipe for one week of public riding. Franz Baehr - fs air | Westenbarger photo Along with the pipe, they also set up a down bar, up-flat-down box, flat box and a down lift tower for your jibbing pleasure. Mammoth is closing on Memorial day, May 28th, so this is your last chance to perfect those frontside airs under the California sun. www.mammothmountain.com
Roadtrip Nation + Fuel TV Partner for Action Sports Roadtrip this Summer
5/27/2008
By Press Release May 16, 2008 Roadtrip Nation + Fuel TV Partner for Action Sports Roadtrip this Summer Costa Mesa, CA – May 8th, 2008 - Roadtrip Nation is partnering with Fuel TV and NowWhat.com to create an episodic roadtrip focusing on the action sports lifestyle and genre, which will follow a team of young adults with a passion for action sports as they connect with the heroes and icons who define this culture. Roadtrippers will have the opportunity to converse with people in the action sports industry who will share their stories of how they got to where they are today. The finished roadtrip will air on Fuel TV's program 'The Daily Habit.' NowWhat.com will provide support for the roadtrip. Fuel TV is the only action sports cable and satellite network in the United States producing original and exclusive content, packed with programming spanning the lifestyle and culture of skateboarding, snowboarding, surfing, BMX, freestyle motocross, wakeboarding and more. Individuals and teams of three are encouraged to apply. About Roadtrip Nation In the summer of 2001, recent college graduates Mike Marriner, Brian McAllister and Nathan Gebhard decided to take a roadtrip to discover their place in the world. The idea behind the roadtrip was simple: if you don't know what to do with your life, go out and talk to people who are doing what they love, and ask them how they got there. They hit the road in a mechanically unsound green RV, and 17,000 miles later had interviewed 85 individuals including the Chairman of Starbucks, Craig Venter - the scientist who decoded the human genome, Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, the director of Saturday Night Live, and many others. Since then, Roadtrip Nation has evolved into a movement that helps individuals define their own lives: a PBS television series, three books, an online community, and a student network on over 350 campuses. Roadtrip Nation's programs enable students to hit the road on their own to interview individuals across the country. In the fall and spring, Roadtrip Nation's fleet of three green RVs tour campuses across the country holding grassroots events, film screenings, and recruiting sessions to empower other students to hit the road and discover their own paths in life. These experiences are shared online at www.roadtripnation.com
